The Salvation Army will officially launch construction of its new Family Store, 600 Catalina Drive, Yuma on Tuesday July 8, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Mayor Larry Nelson will speak on behalf of the City of Yuma and Major Bill Lum will represent The Salvation Army’s divisional headquarters. “We’re going to demolish part of the old store to celebrate the launch of a brand new concept for The Salvation Army”, said Captain Jonathan Harvey
The launch of the new store’s remodel will signify the first major step forward for The Salvation Army in more than two decades and the first of many projects to repair and update the organizations facilities. The new store will not only help to secure a stronger financial foundation for The Salvation Army in Yuma County but provide the community with a comfortable and inexpensive place to shop for new and used items.
The Salvation Army will completely remodel the former Rite Aid store to develop the new concept Family Store. “Our plan is to create a store where anyone can feel comfortable shopping regardless of their economic status”, said Captain Jonathan Harvey of The Salvation Army’s new location. “This store will be like no other”, Harvey continued.
The new location will be close to double the size of The Salvation Army’s existing store on Arizona Avenue, which will close and be sold when the new store opens. The Salvation Army has operated its Arizona Avenue store for more than 20 years.
Donated new and used goods can be dropped off at The Salvation Army, 1701 South Arizona Ave – Yuma until the new location is ready. For a free local pickup call 928.783.0181.
