A teen in Yuma is arrested for aiming a laser at an occupied aircraft

YUMA — On Monday, June 26, 2023, around 10:32 p.m., the Yuma Police Department received information from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Yuma Air Branch that a vehicle was pointing a laser at one of their helicopters operating in the sky. The laser pointer was pointed at the helicopter three separate times, striking the helicopter and pilots.
The vehicle was tracked to a nearby residence in the 6000 block of E. 43rd Place. Arizona Western College PD, USBP Agents and Yuma PD Officers made contact with 18 year old Matthew Zamarron. Through interviewing and evidence located at the scene, Matthew Zamarron was arrested and booked on the felony charge of Aiming a Laser at an Occupied Aircraft.
