AWC host open mic night & artist showcase

PARKER — Science Fiction students from AWC, in conjunction with the college’s Creative Writing School, has been informing the community about its sixth annual Parker Open Mic and Artists’ Showcase from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, at the Parker Learning Center, 1109 Geronimo Ave.
The event will feature the work of water colorist and urban sketcher Michael Feather.
Writers, musicians, dancers, comics and spoken-word artists of all types are welcome to participate. Any four- to six-minute performance suitable for presentation in front of a live audience is welcome. However, pre-registration is recommended as performance slots are limited.
“Our intention with this event is to provide an opportunity for artists from the college and community to gather and share their work in a safe, affirming environment,” said Professor of English David Kern.
While AWC encourages freedom of expression in artistic matters, participants are asked to refrain from gratuitous references to violence or slurs based on race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. The faculty and staff of AWC will have the final say on when such content has no artistic merit. The event is intended for participants and spectators 14 years of age and older.
