SLPD informs the community about St. Patrick’s Day DUI checkpoints

SAN LUIS — This St. Patrick’s Day Weekend, San Luis Police Department has been informing the community about its force conducting DUI checkpoints, and STEP enforcements.
The police department will continue its support of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety DUI Traffic Enforcement Program with this latest round of enforcement beginning Thursday, March 16th through Saturday, March 18th, 2023.
The objective of the traffic enforcement program is to reduce the number of vehicle collisions and the resulting injuries and fatalities through increased highly visible enforcement. Police will focus on occupant restraint, impaired driving, speeding enforcement and pedestrian safety. Increased patrol efforts will be focused throughout San Luis.
San Luis Police Department would like to remind everyone who drinks alcoholic beverages to have a designated driver. We remind motorists and passengers it only takes a second or two to fasten a seat belt. A seatbelt could help save your life. Be responsible and enjoy the celebrations.
SLPD also want to remind the community violations of traffic law restrictions are punishable by fines and possible jail time. Please report suspected DUI, reckless, and unsafe driving to the San Luis Police Department.
