Social media threat at Gila Ridge High School in Yuma

YUMA — On Friday, September 15, 2023, at approximately 7:58 a.m., the Yuma Police Department received information about a possible threat on an unspecified School on Friday, September 15, 2023.
The investigation showed the threat was sent via social media. A student from Yuma High School informed their parent who immediately reported it to the school. The threat was also reported by a grandparent of a student attending Gila Ridge High School.
Yuma Police Department School Resource officers investigated and at this time deemed the threat not credible. The Yuma Police Department worked with Yuma Union School District One in reference to this case.
The Yuma Police Department takes all school threats very seriously and will investigate each one of them. We appreciate the members of our community who alerted us to this incident and gave us the opportunity to verify the threat. We are asking the parents and guardians of all students to speak with them about the serious consequences of following any challenges encouraging acts of violence circulating on social media.
